PRAIA DO AMOR, ÁGUA BOA, BELÉM DO PARÁ

Praia do Amor in Água Boa neighborhood, in the metropolitan region of Belém do Pará,is a paradise not really known by tourists visiting the region.

I myself only got to know Praia do Amor because of Raquel, a traveling friend I made at Galeria Hostel, the great accommodation I stayed there.

I had started a walk with another friend, but it was kind of boring, visiting squares and parks, when Raquel sent me a message saying she was going to this beach that I hadn’t even heard of yet.

Belém, big and humble city

I took a bus and went to meether. It was more than an hour of travel within the city, just like that, leaving the tourist center I realized how big and humble the city is.

Less than 3 kilometers after leaving the hostel that was in the center, the scene starts to change a lot.

Aside from the main avenue where the bus passed, most streets were dirt.

There were people everywhere and many simple bars.

Looking through some openings close to the street, it was possible to see the very simple houses, most of them unfinished buildings, it was like a slum

Unlike other cities I’ve been to, this one hour  trip was almost always with this scenario.

It was 30 km from the hostel to the beach.

The beautiful Praia do Amor (meaning- Love Beach)

Praia do Amor is of fresh water, to the Guajará Bay on the way to the Marajó Bay.

It’s a very beautiful landscape with dark water, white sand and some trees that seem to have only roots along the shore.

When I arrived I asked for coconut water and the coconut was yellow, it comes from the dwarf coconut tree with the yellow Malay coconut, very common in the north and northeast of Brazil.

the rain in Belém

It hadn’t been half an hour since I had met Raquel and it started to rain hard, as I said in the Mrcado-ver-o-peso publication (a supermarket), it rains every day.

The bar that protected us from the rain

We ran to a bar that was pretty empty to protect us. We took the opportunity to have a fish stew (Moqueca) for lunch, which was well served, but not very good.

As I said before, it is about 30 kilometers from the center with three lanes connecting to the bridge that gives access to this administrative district, which is an island surrounded by rivers.

Was it worth going there?

It was really worth it, besides the beach being very beautiful, I was able to see a little more of Belém do Pará outside the tourist circuit.
