I’m Matheus Fraga, Rodrigo Schmiegelow’s brother, and I’m going to tell you what to do in San Martín de Los Andes.

I arrived there after taking the Road of the Seven Lakes, which by the way was an incredible experience, and the city of San Martín was the final stop.

Who is my brother?

He’s Rodrigo Schmiegelow, an advertiser specializing in Digital Marketing, today he lives as a Digital Nomad (what is it), in other words, that he has geographic freedom and can work from anywhere in the world.

That’s why he can have amazing experiences like this.

He started a trip around the world to get to know places, cultures and regional cuisines and I will bring great surprises from these experiences.

About the city of San Martín de Los Andes

The city is located on the shore of Lácar Lake, and is in northwest Patagonia.

The city has about 23,000 inhabitants and an incredible nature. Its landscape is a mix of a freshwater beach, vegetation and a wonderful clean sky.

Near the town, we saw a bunch of cars parked on the road shoulder, and decided to see what they were looking at. When we parked, we noticed that they were watching the sunset and we decided to watch it too.

It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen, and it was super fast. The sun was hiding behind the mountain, while reflecting on the lake. It is very difficult to describe how it was, but I guarantee it was enchanting.

What to do in San Martín de Los Andes

Chapelco Hill

Main place to practice sports in the snow, such as skiing and snowboarding.

To reach the top it is necessary to take the cable car, which affords 6 people. Up there, it is possible to watch an incredible landscape: Lácar Lake, in addition to the Lanín volcano in the background.

The Road of the Seven Lake

It’s not necessarily something to do in San Martín de los Andes but rather around the area.

Like I said, it’s an amazing tour, which is really worth doing. So, if you’re going to do it, take a day to wake up early and hit the road.

 Machónico Lake

I managed to do this tour in one day. It lasted a few hours, but with plenty of stops to enjoy the scenery.

Lanín National Park

Its main attraction is the Lanín volcano and the activities that can be practiced in the snow.

The park has 413,000 hectares of protected area, 20 glacial lakes, mountains and rivers, in addition, of course, to a lot of wonderful scenery.

Lácar Lake – San Martín de Los Andes

As I already said, the city is located on the shores of Lácar Lake, which is glacial, so visiting the lake would be a good option for a tour.

Lácar Lake

In addition to being very beautiful, it turns into a freshwater beach, which I believe you can enter in the summer, but in winter I would not face it lol.

Playa Catritre – Beach

A great option for a summer tour, in addition to being easily accessible, it is possible to arrive by car, bus and even on foot.

It is about 5 kilometers from downtown, and it is possible to enjoy the view the entire way.
