Arraial do Cabo is a municipality in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil – located in the Região dos Lagos, bordering Cabo Frio.

It is a coastal city with breathtaking beaches.

How to get to Arraial do Cabo

You can reach the city by land, from the city of Rio de Janeiro, by car, travel bus, motorcycle, as you prefer.

It is also possible to get there by plane to Cabo Frio airport, and from there to Arraial do Cabo.

It is possible to visit the other nearby cities, which also have charming landscapes, such as Cabo Frio and Armação dos Búzios, which is about 50 minutes away by car and is very worth knowing.

Things to do in Arraial do Cabo

Visit the beaches

As I already said, the beaches of Arraial do Cabo are heavenly and breathtaking, impossible not to fall in love with them.

Getting to know the beaches of Arraial do Cabo is an almost mandatory tour when you go to the city.

Praia do Farol

This beach has been voted one of the most beautiful in the world.

It is a reserve area, once an accumulation of prehistoric relics that are found in the sand.

Its access is only made by boats and, as it is a reserve area, it is only possible to reach it by boats authorized by the navy.

Oven’s Beach – Praia do Forno

Another lovely beach in Arraial do Cabo. Access is via a trail, which lasts about 20 minutes, or by boat.

Right on the top of the trail there is a viewpoint where you can see the entire Praia do Forno.

This beach is ideal for diving.

Praia Grande – Big Beach

It is the biggest and coldest beach in Arraial do Cabo. It has 40 kilometers of white sand, coastal vegetation, dunes and transparent sea.

Praia Grande has one of the most beautiful sunsets in the entire city. Really charming.

Taking a schooner tour is great for discovering some inaccessible beaches, in addition to being a very fun tour in which you swim in the high seas.

It is a unique experience, with incredible landscapes. It is possible to see turtles, dolphins, whales and sometimes even orcas.

The tour lasts about 4 hours and costs an average of 70 reais (Almost $15 dollars).

It passes by Praia do Farol, Pedra do Gorila, Meteor Crater (Buraco do Meteoro), Oven ‘s Beach (Praia do Forno), Prainhas do Pontal, Blue Grotto (Gruta Azul), Gruta do Amor (another Grotto) and Fenda da Nossa Senhora (fissure of our lady).

Oceanographic Museum – Arraial do Cabo

The Oceanographic Museum is a beautiful option for those who are tired of the sea, for closed day..

This museum brings together studies from the Sea Studies Institute Admiral Paulo Moreira (Instituto de Estudos do Mar Almirante Paulo Moreira), of the Brazilian Navy.

There you can see objects/equipment linked to the ocean, marine organisms and even the skeleton of a 6 meter orca.

It is open from Tuesday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and holidays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and during tourist season  it is open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

It is definitely a tour worth taking.
