And then our stay in this very hot and humid city begins. But as you realized, the whole experience had already started before we got there.

in Barra do Garças, we were greeted by my friend’s brother, Rogério (a super receptive guy with an accent and a simple way of the countryside), and his great friend and storyteller, Fabio Lima – a guy who traveled no further than 600km away from Barra do Garças, but with his sympathy and way of telling stories, he catches the attention of everyone, who are always in doubt if what he is saying is true or not.

The house in Barra do Garças belongs to a former football player

They welcomed us with barbecue and beer, the most popular beer there is Crystal, not consumed frequently in São Paulo. Shortly after, the owner of the house,  who is an ex-football player, Clóvis, appeared there. He played for Santos, Atletico Mineiro, Vasco, Flamengo (all those are important professional football teams in Brazil), a career that ended in the early 90’s.

He was there to receive the money from the rent of the old house we were in. Dirty house, old beds that looked more like shells, there weren’t even lids on the toilets. He ended up losing almost everything he had gained in his time of heyday, the only property left was where we were hosted.

Barra do Garças is the home of some indigenous communities

As we were tired, we took a shower and went out to get to know the city. We stopped at a bar on a river bank. But we only had a beer and went back to sleep, the day had been very exhausting. Well, just to finish the description of the city, it’s a normal country town. The main difference is that it’s very close to indigenous communities, so there’s always one or two Indigenous passing by on the street. In addition, it is an hour late with Brasília time, so after crossing the bridge that connects the city with Goiás the time changes.
